General Auto Insurance reviews
I wish I could rate this lower. My experience with this company has been deplorable to say the very least.
I was hit from behind by one of their policy holders two months ago, and have had the most awful runaround with these people. A police officer witnessed the wreck, and did confirm that it was their policy holder's fault. Since then I have dealt with two of their insurance adjusters to receive compensation. Both people spoke to me once only to never call back until I either sent in a complaint to customer service, or had my insurance call them. I left over a dozen messages on both adjuster's answering machines, only to never hear another word. The first gentleman promised I would be getting a rental car, and that I'd hear from him the next business day. Needless to say, that never happened. When my insurance offered to send them the police report to speed up the process they told her that wouldn't be necessary, as they had already claimed full liability. But when I called to ask about how much I'd be getting back for my totaled car, they said they had no idea what I was talking about and needed a police report. I called my insurance adjuster back, and she couldn't believe what I was telling her. She was livid. After her second call to The General, suddenly they magically had a police report and admitting full liability. I was then transferred to a woman that dealt with payments. After our first conversation I never heard back. I left message after message on her answering machine. She said that she would be sending me some paper work to fill out and have notarized. More than a week past and nothing. No paper work. We were in the same state! So I called customer service again, and they apologized. Two days later the paperwork came in. I filled it out, had it notarized and mailed back the same day. Two days later I called to see if they received it. No answer. I called customer service who said that they had received the paper work and that I should be receiving a check shortly. TWO WEEKS PASS! I left dozens of voice mails on this damn woman's answering machine with not ONE call back. So, this time I call her local office and ask for her by name less than a minute after I get her voice mail. Magically she's suddenly available to speak! I tried to explain to her the situation and she interrupted me! So I raised my voice above her and told her how unhappy I was with the service, and how I was going to let everyone I knew know! She then said she would be overnighting the check to me. Her excuse was, "No one told me the paper work was on my desk". HOW MESSY IS YOUR DAMN DESK LADY!!? It's been two weeks. I'm supposed to receive the check today. We'll see what happens. There's no doubt in my mind that it is company police for General employees to lie to customers about payment status, and to not return calls until customer service has been contacted. I'm curious as to how many people don't get payed because they just give up.
NO REFUNDS WHEN YOU CANCEL A POLICY BEFORE EXPIRE DATE.I canceled my policy 2 months before it was due again and was awarded no refund it went to a fee to cancel early. NEVER EVER heard of that before from any other insurance company. I went to Nationwise and got insurance for 2 cars for the price the General was charging me for 1. What a rip off (DON'T USE THEM FIND SOMEONE ELSE)By: Lynn Varney Weddle1 | 1 / 5 | 18 months ago
This company lies, cheats and steals unapologetically and cancels you without knowledge or reason while keeping your money. DO NOT use themBy: aviray221 | 1 / 5 | 20 months ago
I had their insurance for less than 24 hours and when I asked to cancel, they let me know that there was no cancelation fee and they let me know that since the cancelation was benign processed that they have no information about the refund amount and would call me back, which they never did. I called them back and they tell me that I am not due a refund because there is a cancelation fee of the entire amount that I paid for the month. The cost of having them insure my car for less than 24 hours is the same amount as the whole month. They are such a rip off. Do not waste your time and hard earned money.By: Jeremy Thomas 1 | 1 / 5 | 10 months ago
I was forced to AT LEAST give The General a 1 star rating so i could post a review! I only wish I could rate it lower!
my car was hit by one of their clients while my car was parked in an apartment parking lot and they took off!! We have witnesses and police reports and the General is STILL denying their client was at fault!! It was my wifes car and he hit it so hard you cant open the driver door anymore. she has to crawl through the passenger side!
I'm going through this with them right now! This company is total crap!By: Kgabbard38 | 1 / 5 | 3 months ago
This company is terrible! I was sitting at a stop light when I was rear ended by a lady who carries this insurance. After multiple calls and emails they finally emailed me back to say that they found I had no loss from the accident. This is even after providing the police report! My bumper needs to be replaced, and the two carseats in my car at the time also have to be replaced! How is that considered loss? Now I'm stuck hiring an attorney. Screw you, general!
